Terms of service

These terms apply when you buy or use a Builder Pass CPD Pass, course or account. They are written in plain language on purpose. If something is unclear, ask us before you buy at hello@builderpass.ca.

1. Who we are

Builder Pass is operated by PR West Developments Inc. dba Builder Pass, Squamish, British Columbia, Canada (“we”, “us”). GST #[pending]. Contact details are on the contact page.

2. What you are buying

  • Annual pass. Access to every course published on Builder Pass for one licence term: 12 months ending on the licence expiry date you give us at checkout. Price $299 plus GST.
  • Single course. Access to one named course until you complete it or 12 months from purchase, whichever comes first. Price $29 plus GST.
  • Company plan. Three or more annual passes bought in one order at a 15% discount, each assigned to one named person.

Access is delivered online immediately after payment. Prices are in Canadian dollars. GST (5%) is added at checkout and shown before you pay; no other tax is currently charged. We email a copy of your order and these terms to you right after purchase.

3. What we are not

We are an independent training provider. We are not BC Housing, we are not part of it, and we do not issue, renew or regulate builder licences. Our courses are designed to meet BC Housing’s criteria for informal continuing professional development (1 point per hour of instruction). BC Housing does not endorse or accredit providers, and we make no claim that it endorses us. Where we say a course is listed on the BC Housing Education Registry, we mean exactly that and nothing more.

4. You report your own CPD

You are responsible for reporting your CPD to BC Housing in the Licensed Residential Builder portal, for the accuracy of what you report, and for keeping records for the period BC Housing requires (currently three years after the end of the licence term). We give you a completion record with the fields the portal asks for and we keep a copy in your account. We do not report on your behalf.

5. No guarantee of renewal or acceptance

BC Housing decides whether points are accepted and whether a licence is renewed. We do not guarantee that any course will be accepted for CPD, that your licence will be renewed, or that BC Housing’s rules will not change during your term. We describe the rules as we understand them at the date on each page and we link to BC Housing’s own CPD page; where they differ, BC Housing’s page governs.

6. Course availability and changes

The catalogue changes. We add courses, publish new versions when the law or practice changes, and retire courses. A pass covers the courses published during its term. A published version you have started stays available to you until you complete it or the term ends. We may correct errors in a course at any time. If we withdraw a course you have paid for as a single course before you complete it, we refund that course.

7. Your account and acceptable use

  • One person per account. Completion records are issued in the account holder’s name against one builder licence, so sharing an account is not permitted and makes the record inaccurate.
  • Do not share login links or access with anyone else.
  • Do not automate, script, accelerate or otherwise interfere with video playback or checkpoints. Seat time is tracked and is the evidence behind your completion record; tampering with it is a breach of these terms and may be reported to BC Housing on request.
  • Do not copy, download, record, resell or redistribute course content.
  • Keep your email address current; it is how we send records and reminders.

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms. Records already issued remain available to you.

8. Payment, renewal and cancellation

Payment is taken by card through our payment processor at checkout. There is no automatic renewal unless you expressly opt in. If you opt in, we email you before your term ends and before any renewal charge, and you can turn renewal off at any time in your account. Refunds are set out in the refund policy: in short, a full refund within 7 days of purchase if you have not completed a course, and none after that. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act (British Columbia).

9. Records and privacy

We keep completion records and the viewing logs behind them for at least three years after the end of the licence term, because BC Housing can audit that period. How we handle your personal information is in the privacy policy.

10. Content is education, not advice

Courses are general education for BC residential builders. They are not legal, financial, engineering or professional advice for your situation, and you should not act on them without checking the current law and, where money is at stake, getting advice from a qualified professional.

11. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for anything arising from a purchase or use of Builder Pass is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including loss of a licence, loss of business or loss of profit, or for BC Housing’s decisions. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under BC law.

12. Intellectual property

Course content, scripts, video, slides, checkpoints and the Builder Pass name are ours or licensed to us. You get a personal, non-transferable right to view the content for your own CPD during your access period, and nothing more.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do, and material changes are emailed to account holders. The terms in force when you bought apply to that purchase.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of British Columbia, without limiting any consumer right to use another forum.
