AI Building Code assistant

Ask the Code. Answers with the section number.

Type the question the way you would ask it on site. You get the BC Building Code 2024 section that applies, a plain-language pointer and a link to the Province’s free online Code. It will not quote the Code, and it is not a substitute for your building official.

What is the minimum headroom over a stair in a house?
9.8.2.1Part 9, Stairs, Ramps, Handrails and Guards

Part 9 sets a minimum clear height over every stair, measured above the line of the nosings, and which figure applies depends on where the stair is. The figures and the way they are measured are in Sentence 9.8.2.1.

The tutor points you to the section and the Province’s free online Code. It does not quote the Code. Check the current Code text and your building official.

How it works

Three steps, none of them on someone else’s calendar.

  1. Step 1: Buy the pass.

$299 + GST. One licence term. No course picking.

  2. Step 2: Watch when you want, any device.

12 courses, 15–20 minute segments, any device. Pick up where you left off.

  3. Step 3: Get your certificate.

Every BC Housing record field, ready for the LRB portal. We remind you before your licence expires.

Press play once. It keeps going.

Hit play, switch tabs or set the phone in the cup holder. Segments run back to back. A course finishes without another tap.

Seat time is tracked the whole way and the certificate says the course was played straight through. Turn Keep playing off and you get a short quick check after each segment instead.

What’s in the pass: 26 points, 12 courses

All seven BC Housing core competencies plus business ethics. New courses added every year, so your pass is never a repeat.

Built for builders, by builders.

The people who made this build homes in BC and were tired of expensive courses scheduled around someone else’s calendar.

So it’s on demand, one price, and the records are the kind an auditor accepts.

How we build and review courses

Questions builders ask

Who is behind Builder Pass?

Builders. It was made by people who build homes in BC and wanted CPD that fits around site work. We don't publish individual names; the company and provider details are on the about page.

Is this pre-approved by BC Housing?

We are applying for listing on the BC Housing Education Registry as pre-approved CPD training. BC Housing does not endorse or accredit providers; it lists training that meets its CPD criteria.

Formal or informal points?

Informal: 1 point per hour of instruction. The pass includes 26 hours of instruction, so 26 informal points against the 20 you need. Formal credit at 2 points per hour is available only from universities, colleges and the associations BC Housing names.

Can I use the same courses next year?

No. BC Housing lets you claim each course once unless it has substantially changed. That is why we add new and updated courses every year, so your pass is never a repeat.

Do I report my points myself?

Yes, in the BC Housing Licensed Residential Builder (LRB) portal. We give you the exact fields to enter and remind you 90, 60 and 30 days before your licence expires.

We have several licences in the company. Is there a plan for that?

Yes. Company plans are 15% off for 3 or more seats. Each seat is a full annual pass for one licence's CPD nominee, with its own records.

What is the refund policy?

Full refund within 7 days of purchase if you have not completed a course. After that, or once a course is completed, the pass is non-refundable.

Next renewal, already handled.

Watch between site visits. Certificate in your vault. Reminders before your licence expires.

$299 + GST. One licence term. Full refund within 7 days if you haven’t completed a course.
